Laura Ilzarbe Izquierdo, Martín Tanco, Elisabeth V llés, and María Jesús Álvarez Sánchez-Arjona originally designed the catapult. Their document, "The Design of Experiments as a Tool for Process Improvement: Application to Catapult Design," is where this concept was born. To use this in a statistics class at the university level, we need to model it so that students can apply it to their studies. Print Settings: * Printer: Rostock Mini Delta FLsun * Rafts: No * Supports: Doesn't Matter * Resolution: 0.1, 0.2, or 0.3 * Infill: 30% Notes: Perimeters (Perimeters) should be between 4 and 6, with top and bottom perimeters at 3 to 4. Overview and Background: This plan is related to descriptive statistics and counting techniques. Read the scientific article "The Design of Experiments as a Tool for Process Improvement: Application to Catapult Design" by Laura Ilzarbe Izquierdo, Martín Tanco, Elisabeth V llés, and María Jesús Álvarez Sánchez-Arjona. Lesson Plan and Activity: After introducing descriptive statistics topics such as the number of elements, median, mode, standard deviation, and counting techniques, students can practice by using the catapult design. The total number of combinations for the experiment is 8 (16 if two elements are used). 1.1 The student may or may not generate a hypothesis to test, asking themselves which configuration will launch the band farther. In this case, 10 bands of color were designated for each possible variation, totaling 8 colors and 180 bands. The student or group configures the first variation and performs the first 10 launches (same color band), takes note of the configuration and color assigned, and measures the distance achieved for each band. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all 8 configurations are complete and 80 launches are performed. With the captured data, the student performs descriptive statistics, graphs, and confirms the hypothesis. Materials Needed: * Allen wrenches (3x25, 4x14, 3x6) * Rubber bands * Flexometer * Camera Duration of Lesson: 1-2 hours
