(Discontinued project) Clay's direct drive extruder: 3-Piece, Latching, Easy Print (Printrbot Jr. V2)
thingiverse
Currently, I'm taking a brief break from working on this project. Thank you, Printrbot, for sharing the designs of the Jr. v2! However, I haven't fully tested it yet. Recent updates include V1.1 (4-19): - Adjusted radii of various parts - Trimmed the body to save material and time while improving internal clearance - Rounded a corner on the latch - Added teeth at the bottom of the inside for anticipated heat problems - Consolidated the design into one STL file I've been experimenting with Printrbot Jr. v2 extruder parts for some time now, aiming to create an extruder with these features: - Easy latching and unlatching mechanism - Minimal printed parts (only 3) - No need for additional metal parts not already included in the PBJrV2's extruder - Printable without supports - Compatibility with my Printrbot (future plans: modular support for fans at various locations) The latching mechanism in this design is similar to the original but reduces strain on the frame and makes filament changes easier. Instructions: - Screw sizes might be small, so be prepared to use a drill if necessary - Follow the laser cut parts diagram - Note: Place the spring at the bottom of the screw, and use a washer (like one of the two found in the bearing) between the spring and the latch Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback!
