‘Dirkie Uys’ Ox Wagon
thingiverse
The Voortrekkers used ox-wagons (Afrikaans: Ossewa) during the Great Trek north and north-east from the Cape Colony in the 1830s and 1840s. An ox-wagon traditionally made with the sides rising toward the rear of the wagon to resemble the lower jaw-bone of an animal is also known as a kakebeenwa (jaw-bone wagon). # History I am 71 years young and decided to build a Delta 3D printer to show the youngsters that there is nothing wrong with my mind and head. It took me 1 year and 3 months to complete it. All the parts are metal and handmade. The size of my printer is 300mm radius and 1000mm high. I am in South Afrika and interested in our Afrikaner history. I looked around but couldn't find anything for South African voortrekker ox wagon to print, so I just had to do this myself. The ‘Dirkie Uys’ Wagon is believed to be over 180 years old. I used SCAD to draw all the parts and with "chassis_v2.scad" you can assemble the wagon. Here is my contribution to thingiverse. I have included the SCAD files. I am not a programmer and my SCAD code is sloppy. You are more than welcome to clean the code and send me a copy please. You will find my address somewhere in the “BOX_V3B.SCAN” code SCAD code notes: 1. “watent_v3C.scad” You use this to print the tent sideways with the ribs If it is too big for your printer you can cut it onto two parts. see lines 129 and 131 in the unmodified copy. 2. “watent_v3B.scad” Print the tent or frame. see comments at the end. 3. frame_v3B.scad Use to print the frame ribs only. You can select the rib number. 4. Variables I have moved all the variables of the modules to “OssewaConfig_V2.scad” 5. Modules All the modules are moved to “OssewaLibrary2.scad” 6. Language All the notes, remarks and names were in Afrikaans/Dutch in version 2 of the code. English is added to version 3. 7. The Assembly “chassis_v2.scad” Is the assembled wagon. Modules may be excluded to remove certain parts. 8. Other support I have not included all the robes, chains and iron connecting rods. # Printer Printer DIY Delta 3D printer I used the Ardunio mega with Repetier # Printing Filament: PLA glow in the night Green Rafts: Not necessary on most of the parts. Supports: Not necessary on most of the parts. It depends on the orientation on the print bed.
