Direct Drive Mount for BMG Extruder - Ender 3
thingiverse
I had to install my BMG clone extruder in a Direct Drive configuration using a 20mm stepper motor. To accomplish this, I made some changes from the original design. 1. I moved the motor further forward to avoid hitting the Z-axis support. 2. I relocated the motor mount holes slightly higher because now the boden tube exiting the bottom of the extruder is not directly above the entry to the hotend. This required a little more room to avoid kinking the tube and I didn't want to alter the position of the hotend. 3. I added a bit more material around the mounting holes where the aluminum sleeves get pushed in. By design, these have to be a very tight fit and I was worried about the PLA cracking when I hammered the sleeves in. I also adjusted some of the support material as I was only printing the part in PLA and wanted to ensure zero flex and avoid deformation due to heat. The original is a great design and all credit should go to it. This is merely an adaptation of that design to suit my own needs. **Note:** 05/03/2020 I updated the design by slimming it down some more to remove excess weight and bulk. I found that it was still very strong and didn't flex even with the reduced size. A bonus is that it also prints quicker too. If you use this on your printer, I would love feedback on how well it worked for you.
