Direct Drive mod for ender 5
cults3d
Original "Ender 3 Direct Drive" by Blyckert, with a little mod (chop off the overhang!) was working fine in my ender 5, but after many hours of printing, I noticed some heavy wear in the extruder parts due to the filament coming in from "odd angle" and grinding the plastic. So I decided to mod this thing a little, and add interfaces for the original PTFE-tube to fit in. Now the filament path is closer to the original bowden setup, and it's coming straight down to the extruder. So far I have not seen any negative effects due to the added weight in the hotend/extruder. I have used only 2 screws to hold the whole thin in place, and they have been holding strong. Requires longer m3 screw for extruder mount (Smaller one) and m5 screw for optional spool end ptfe-tube mount. Also requires extension to the extruder cable, .7m should be enough. either solder directly to the wires, or search for the connectors used in the cable loom. V2's are new design, as I noticed too much bending in original "PTFE-Tower". And in the spool end filament went in to the PTFE tube in somewhat awkward, eating the holder away. Spool end part uses original extruder mounting screws and t-nuts, extruder mount uses the v-slot wheel bolt, but needs longer screw for the smaller hole. original heatsink shroud screws are too short by a few millimeters...
