I designed a compact direct drive extruder setup, drawing inspiration from the Printrbot's efficient design. It utilizes a lever arm style filament pusher for smooth operation. To print this assembly, you'll need just four parts: The Extruder Base provides a solid foundation, while the Arm v5 serves as a sturdy supporting component. The Arm Pin and Arm Spacer work together to maintain precise alignment. The holes on the extruder base are carefully spaced to accommodate a NEMA 17 stepper motor perfectly. Simply drill out the pre-drilled holes once printed, then secure everything with longer hardware and M3 nuts and bolts for a rock-solid assembly. I've opted for M3 fasteners throughout this project, and I'm pleased with the results. A golf tee proves to be an excellent fit as the pin that passes through the ball bearing, allowing for smooth motion and minimal friction. Here are the ball bearing specifications: Outside diameter: 10mm Inside diameter: 5mm Thickness: 4mm To assemble the spring mechanism, I used a bed spring sandwiched between a M3 nut, washer, and M3 bolt. This arrangement provides the necessary tension without compromising stability.
