I've created a temporary direct drive extruder specifically tailored to work in tandem with Type 17PM-K103-08W stepper motors, which feature a modified shaft that doubles as a hobbed bolt. The ideal placement for the hobbing mechanism is exactly 15mm away from the motor's face.
