From Wikipedia: Diplocaulus, meaning Double Caul, is an extinct lepospondyl amphibian genus that originated from North America during the Permian period. It is often mistakenly referred to as Hammerhead Salamander. The Diplocaulus exhibits a distinctive boomerang-shaped skull which separates it from other similar species. A variety of remains belonging to this specific group has been discovered, notably in the Late Permian area of Morocco. These Moroccan discoveries signify that they are amongst the youngest remnants found anywhere within North America and even more significantly that lepospondyl fossils continue being unearthed with the last occurrence dating back thousands of years from what was thought as the extinction era of this particular species
