Diotisalvi Neroni at The Louvre, Paris
cults3d
Giorgio Vasari identifies Dietisalvi Neroni on a work by Mino da Fiesole. As Italy's first advisor to Cosimo de' Medici, the Elder, Neroni helped him return to Florence after exile. This decision led Cosimo to appoint Neroni as his successor in Florence. However, Piero the Gouty, Cosimo's son, failed to live up to his father's standards of leadership. His ineptitude and tyrannical behavior ultimately led to Neroni being declared a rebel by the state. As a result, Neroni was stripped of all his assets. He later moved to Sicily before settling in Rome, where he eventually passed away. A bust by Mino da Fiesole and a portrait by Domenico Ghirlandaio in the Sistine Chapel are all that remain of him today.
