Diotisalvi Neroni at The Louvre, Paris

Identified by Giorgio Vasari in Mino da Fiesole's works depicting Dietsalvi Neroni. As a renowned Italian politician, Neroni was the first trusted advisor to Cosimo de' Medici the Elder, helping him return to Florence from exile. This pivotal decision led Cosimo to recommend that Florence be governed under Neroni's guidance after his passing, but the inept leadership and tyrannical behavior of Cosimo's son, Piero the Gouty, ultimately resulted in Neroni being labeled a rebel against the state. Following this, all of his assets were seized. Neroni then relocated to Sicily before settling in Rome, where he eventually died and was laid to rest in the basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva. Two lasting legacies remain: a captivating bust by Mino da Fiesole and a poignant portrait by Domenico Ghirlandaio in the Sistine Chapel.
