Pan was a semidivine figure among shepherds and herds, identified in Roman times as a faun, half-human half-animal, with the head of a bearded man and horns and legs of a ram. He was also the god of male sexuality and fertility as well as wild nature. Pan possessed great sexual power and appetite. Pan played the syrinx or panpipes.
