This stunning marble head portrays the youthful Dionysus (Bacchus), adorned with an ivy wreath and lush berries. The eyes are inlaid, and faint traces of crimson pigment still linger on his face. Discovered in Lazio, Rome, this magnificent piece is a 2nd Century AD replica of a style that originated in the 2nd Century BC. This revered artifact is safely housed at The British Museum (1879,0712.2), though it's not currently on display for public viewing.
