Dionysos and Pan and a panther

In ancient Hellenic tradition, Dionysos ruled over wine production, festivals, fertility, theatre, and ecstatic rituals. As Bacchus, he was revered by Romans who adopted his name. Wine held significant status within Greek culture, with the cult of Dionysos centering on unrestrained indulgence. Nearby, Pan presided over wilderness areas, shepherds, and their flocks, as well as rustic music and nature's wilds. His name originated from the Greek word paein, signifying "to graze," and the modern term "panic" derives from his title. Physically, he resembled a faun or satyr with goat-like hindquarters, legs, and horns.
