Dionysos and Pan, along with a majestic panther, were immortalized in a stunning Roman copy from a Greek original. The exquisite marble statue was crafted in the 2nd century A.D., originating from Pozzuoli near Naples. This breathtaking work of art is now proudly displayed at the Nye Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen, Denmark. In ancient Greek mythology and religion, Dionysus was revered as the god of wine, fertility, theater, and ecstatic rituals. Known to the Romans as Bacchus, this revered deity played a pivotal role in Greek culture, with his cult centering around the unbridled consumption of wine. Wine was an integral part of Greek life, with the worship of Dionysus serving as the focal point for uninhibited revelry. Pan, on the other hand, was worshipped as the god of nature's untamed wilderness, shepherds, and their flocks. His name originated from the ancient Greek word "paein," meaning "to pasture," which is also the root of the modern term "panic." Pan's image features the hindquarters, legs, and horns of a goat, much like those of a faun or satyr.
