Dinosaur Puzzle T - Rex Simple Laser cut
thingiverse
This is a super fun T-Rex puzzle I created for my grandkids. They would often pull the pictures off other puzzles, which made me realize that painting was not an option since the dye soaks into wood. I decided to make this one out of 3mm wood, and you can use any thickness you prefer. The wood has been stained with child-safe dye. The idea is to cut out two squares - one with a square hole in it and the other with a dinosaur outline inside another square. Once these are glued together, you'll have a place for the kids to insert the dino bits. I cut out the dino parts from different colors so that they can be mixed and matched. The kids probably won't care about how realistic it looks, but I made sure it's still pretty cool! Some of the dinosaur parts have lines on them in a different color - for instance, the feet and face have these lines. To achieve this effect, you'll need to cut a very thin line that will look like a drawn-on line. Inside one set of files is another bit with 0.3mm smaller dimensions. This one allows for a sloppier fit so that paint or varnish can be added without compromising the puzzle's functionality. It also comes in handy if your laser cutter has specific kerf limitations.
