In 1997, near Purbeck's quarry sites, an extraordinary collection of dinosaur footprints was unearthed, which would eventually become known as Britain's most extensive dinosaur footprint exposures. The prints had lain hidden in the mud for approximately 140 million years after they were first trodden into it. They are the unmistakable prints of massive Sauropods, either Brachiosaurids or Tatanosaurids. The prints consist of circular depressions in what was once a bed of mud that formed over time on a beach adjacent to a freshwater lagoon. During this period, several individuals, including a juvenile, walked across this area. Following the discovery, the footprints were reburied while a long-term management plan was devised by the landowners The National Trust and Jurassic Coast Site Team in collaboration with Natural England. This strategy aimed to secure an exact 3D record that could be shared worldwide as the site is prepared for public access. To learn more visit http://www.landscaperesearchcentre.org/wp/?p=113
