Meet Rex the Tyrant Lizard King, a massive predator who dominated ancient lands during the Cretaceous period about 68 million years ago in North America and other regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Its name combines "Tyrannus" meaning "tyrant," from Greek roots, with "saurus" which signifies reptile. Weighing around seven tons, this incredible creature measured about twelve to thirteen meters in length. The primary food source for Rex consisted of other herbivorous dinosaurs and animals, using its extraordinary hunting skills to pursue and kill its victims. A Tyrannosaurus had tiny arms and two razor-sharp legs on each side but still managed impressive strength and powerful kicks capable of crushing almost any opponent. In popular culture, a film in 1988 depicts this dinosaur as the hero fighting another creature, making Rex appear almost lovable. Despite that romanticized image, however, it undoubtedly played its part as an apex predator of its domain long before humans set foot on Earth's surface.
