This device can be used to prevent power surges when turning on old electronics that may contain faulty components, such as bad capacitors or other equipment that draws excessive power. The light will illuminate if there is a short circuit in your equipment; if your equipment is free of shorts, the light will remain off or dim. An incandescent bulb is also required; the higher wattage, such as 200 watts, works best. Cut the live wire in an extension cord or power cord and install the light in series, as shown in the photo.
