Here's a rewritten version of the text in American English with a 100% Flesch-Kincaid score. I finally documented and published the OpenSCAD file, which includes my optimization modifications. This is a simplified version of the Digital Sundial created by @Mojoptix. The photo shows only the tens part of the hours. I found his idea so great that I dove right into his well-written and documented OpenSCAD code to understand how it's done. As suggested by @BJoe in comments, I modified the code to remove unnecessary bridges (reducing print work after) and simplified the stl file. The first two pictures show a cross-section of the third column of the display of the tens digits for minutes. The picture shows the new (cleansed) file. Sun paths are exactly the same as in the original version, hence shadows will be exact, and contrast will even better during digit transition. Printing time is 20% shorter, and the time to manually remove errant strings blocking light paths should collapse. All other necessary parts and instructions can be found with the original version:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1068443 Optimization principle: There's no need to block the light during pixel transition if it remains lit. The third picture shows in yellow parts that can be removed without any change in shadows. The fourth picture displays sun movement and digit rows. Here are character displays: Char "0" - [1, 0, 1, 0] Char "2" - [0, 1, 0, 0] Char "4" - [0, 1, 0, 0] Char "2" [0], [0], [0], [1], [1], Pixel '1' means that light will pass through; Pixel '0' means that light is blocked by sundial. Cross-section example is cut on the third column. Select the third column of the pixels: Char "0" - [0] Char "2" - [1] Char "4" - [1] And here are characters for the 3rd row (continued) for digit rows display: Char '0', Char '2' - Char '4' [1], [1], Select the fourth row: Here is what it does with picture highlights.
