Digital Camera Adaptive System for Handicapped People
thingiverse
This adaptable device can be 3D printed and mounted to a stand so that an individual with mobility issues in their hands can still utilize a digital camera featuring control over pan, tilt, zoom, and shutter settings. Many digital cameras possess miniature buttons and controls necessitating refined motor skills, making them inaccessible to individuals afflicted with hand disabilities (arthritis, cerebral palsy, etc.). I designed this innovative gadget as part of a project for a course I was attending. My mother-in-law, who suffers from severe rheumatoid arthritis and possesses very limited fine motor skills in her hands, tested this adaptive equipment and discovered that she could effortlessly capture photographs using a Sony digital camera. The controls can be adjusted to accommodate various types of digital cameras as well. This setup relied on the Arduino Uno platform for power, with three microservos (zoom, shutter, pan) and a standard servo (tilt) functioning in conjunction with seven microswitches to create a fully integrated electronics hardware system. I crafted a wooden mounting box that could securely fit onto a wheelchair tray. Different cameras may require distinct Camera Mount files, and utilizing a Canon camera would likely prove advantageous due to its capability of electronic shutter and zoom control through the USB port. I used a Sony digital camera as it was available, thus necessitating two servos. Implementing this technology with a Canon camera could significantly simplify the setup process.
