To eliminate hot spots on your scan object, add some diffusers to the PiClop lights. I once made a pair that utilized white plastic shopping bags as their diffuser medium. If you need the scanner itself, it's located here:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:754003 Assembly Instructions: Cut a piece of plastic from a bag to match the outer ring and assemble everything together. The diffuser should fit perfectly on the front of the light fixtures, smoothly gliding into place.
