Diffuser for LED light strip in Lulzbot 5mm channel slot
thingiverse
I hooked up the first stick-on LED light strip, which required a 12V supply but was too wide for the channel slot. The blinding brightness prompted me to cut it back on the far side, preventing it from blasting the PI camera. After researching alternative options, I found a 5mm wide by 90cm long USB powered strip that fit perfectly in the slot and was just the right length. However, this new strip was also too bright for comfortable viewing, so I designed a diffuser to soften the light and keep it within the slot. I purchased an LED Light Strip from Fasttech for $4 (https://www.fasttech.com/p/6978101). To add more functionality, I cut the USB wires and inserted an ON/OFF switch from Fasttech (https://www.fasttech.com/p/1135000). The diffuser CAD file I used was 350mm long and required three prints. I arranged each print corner to corner on my TAZ print bed, using a natural 910 Alloy Nylon filament that is translucent. I've included an additional file that is approximately 260mm long for those who may need it.
