Fossilized Tooth of Carcharodon Megalodon (Middle Tortoniense, Upper Miocene; approximately 9 million years old). Found in the vicinity of Porcuna (Jaen) in a block of diatomaceous mudstone. Currently on display at the Obulco Museum (Porcuna, Jaen). The tooth measures 123.96 mm and, compared to the modern white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), has estimated the length of the specimen at approximately 11 meters. This shark primarily fed on marine mammals (mysticete whales and pinnipeds) whose fossil remains abound in Tortoniense materials from the Guadalquivir Basin, occasionally with tooth marks.
