Dichotomoceras, a superior Oxfordian ammonite from the Upper Jurassic, approximately 155 million years old. Located in the Sierra de Segura range of Jaén. Class Cephalopoda, Subclass Ammonoidea, Order Ammonitida, Family Perisphinctidae. Perisphinctids, to which the Dichotomoceras genus belongs, are evolved ammonites that primarily lived on open marine platforms. Characterized by thin shells with fine ornamentation that bifurcates along the marginal ventral border. In the case of Dichotomoceras, these ribs become prominent once they have bifurcated. A unit of Natural Heritage from the Advanced Studies Center in Earth Sciences (CEACTierra) at the University of Jaén. The PALEOV-JAEN project aims to create a virtual paleontological museum for the province of Jaén (funded by the Institute of Giennense Studies -IEG-; IEG2018 projects). UJA-2019
