Dice Scroll Tubes
thingiverse
I got my Fortunes's Favor Dice Scroll from the Critical Role shop and discovered that I couldn't fit many of my dice into the tubes, nor did they fill the entire compartment.\r\n\r\nTo solve this issue, I designed replacement tubes for both compartments, tailored to my specific set of metal dice.\r\n\r\nFor the large compartment (40 mm diameter), you will need to print two 40x70 tubes and one 40x85 tube, along with three 40 mm lids.\r\n\r\nThe small compartment (25 mm diameter) currently has an option for a 20x50 tube paired with a 25 mm lid. This setup fits snugly in the small compartment alongside pens and token markers.\r\n\r\nPrinting these tubes requires no support.\r\n\r\n# The original tubes were too narrow to accommodate my dice properly.\r\n\r\n## Packing the Dice\r\n\r\nPacking the tube means beginning with a d12, followed by a d4, a d20, and then the remaining dice.\r\n\r\nWith metal dice, I need to pack them correctly to fit an entire set of 8 dice into the original short tubes (37 mm diameter, 70 mm tall, and 3 mm extra for the lid).\r\n\r\nBy using the full width of the compartment (40 mm diameter) while keeping other parameters intact, you can fit an additional d4, two d8s, and two d10s into the tube.\r\n\r\n(see comparison images in gallery)\r\n\r\n## 37 mm vs 40 mm Diameter\r\n\r\nIn the original tubes (37 mm), I could only fit a little more than three dice sets; one packed in each of the small, and one with a few extra dice in the large tube.\r\n\r\nWith my custom tubes, my set of 7 dice and 3d8 extra can fit into one short tube without needing to pack them.\r\n\r\n# Designing These Tubes\r\n\r\n## 1 mm Walls\r\n\r\nA wall thickness of 1 mm is sufficient, which also means the original tubes can actually stand inside the custom ones I've designed.\r\n\r\n## Lid\r\n\r\nInitially, I thought of a screw-on lid, but with a 1 mm wall, this isn't feasible. So, I settled on a friction-lid that fits exactly into the tube's hole.\r\n\r\nFor the large (40 mm) tubes, this is not enough to stay on if shaken, but that's not its purpose.\r\n\r\nFor the small (25 mm) tube, the lid can be a bit tight to remove.
