The Diatreta Trivulzio, a magnificent product of fourth-century craftsmanship and linked to the name of Abbot Carlo Trivulzio who brought it to Milan in the 18th century, was part of a rich funeral set belonging to an elevated figure buried in the Novara territory. The cup belongs to a rare and prized class of artifacts produced in specialized workshops: diatreta vases (from the Greek diatretos, pierced). The inscription "BIBE VIVAS MULTIS ANNIS" (drink and live many years) runs around the rim of the vase. Currently, the object is preserved at the Civic Archaeological Collections in Milan.
