diaper genie jaw post
thingiverse
We've had a Diaper Genie Elite since 2013 - the tall model. Its two jaws open and close with a step on the foot pedal. Years ago, when our first child was small, one of the post broke on the jaw, limiting it to just one side opening. Since the jaws are identical, we flipped the unit around to use the other side. Then another year passed before another post broke, leaving us with one side working again. By then, our youngest was nearly potty-trained anyway. When our second child arrived in 2018, I decided to fix it instead of buying a new Diaper Genie for $50, as that money could be better spent on 3D printing. However, modeling the entire jaw seemed like too much work, and I'm not skilled with CAD software. With ample space inside the Diaper Genie, I opted to print just the broken post, adding some extra material on its back for reinforcement. I drilled a hole where the old post used to be, making sure it was a snug fit. A small drop of glue was applied before inserting the new post into place. The design is straightforward and unremarkable, but I'm in the mood to share some older designs that have been collecting dust. If I remember, I'll take a photo of the modified Diaper Genie when I remove the bag - although it's currently too smelly to tackle that task just now!
