In Roman mythology, Artemis' counterpart, Diana, ruled over the hunt, the moon, and nature, commanding a strong association with wild animals and woodland, as well as possessing the incredible ability to converse with and control animals. Eventually, she was linked with the Greek goddess of the hunt and the wilderness, Artemis, despite having an independent origin in Italy. Roman pagans revered Diana as their supreme deity, and her worship continued through ancient times, influencing modern-day spiritual practices in Roman Neopaganism and Stregheria. Known for her virgin status, Diana was also celebrated as a goddess of childbirth and women's empowerment, standing alongside Minerva and Vesta as one of the three eternal maiden goddesses who pledged to remain eternally chaste.
