Diamond model

Carbon is a truly fascinating element. It appears in nature in several forms, one of which is diamond, an extremely hard material. This model depicts the chemical structure of diamond. In diamond, all carbon atoms are arranged in a tetrahedral geometry. To create this model, I discovered a peculiarly shaped diamond PDB structure on a database and edited it using Avogadro, a free molecule editing software. It would be extremely challenging to print the original structure or visualize its geometry. The PDB format is used for chemical structures. From Avogadro, I exported a new PDB file, which I then opened in Chimera, another free software. Finally, I exported the scene as an STL file for 3D printing. To print, adjust the scale in your slicing software. This model is part of a collection of molecular models designed for educational purposes. I also have a carbon nanotube model available.
