Diamond model
cults3d
Carbon is a very insteresting element. It can be present in nature in several forms. One of these forms is diamond, a very hard material. This is a model for diamond´s chemical structure. In diamond all of the carbon atoms are in a tetrahedral geometry. To make this model I found a very oddily shaped diamond .PDB structure on a database and I edited it on Avogadro (a free molecule editing software). It would be very dificult to print the original structure or to see the geometry. PDB is a format used for chemical structures. From Avogadro I exported a new .PDB file, which I opened in Chimera (another free software). Finally, I exported the scene as a .STL file for 3D printing. To print, adjust the scale in your slicing software. This model is part of a collection of molecular models for teaching. I also have a carbon nanotube model.
