Dial indicator mount
thingiverse
I bought an affordable Chinese dial indicator with a magnetic holder base that was supposed to save me money, but it ended up being more trouble than it's worth. From the moment I started using it, I struggled to get it adjusted just right, and that's when I knew I had to come up with a solution. The dial indicator I'm working with has a rectangular stud with a hole drilled through it for mounting on a holder base. The rod on my magnetic base is 10mm in diameter. I designed the parts using PLA printing material and gave them 100% infill, which means they're nice and solid. However, I had to use bolts and nuts to tighten the hex holes because they were all very snug, making it hard to screw anything into place. To make this project work, you'll need two additional nuts and bolts - a quarter inch size would be ideal, but I used coarse thread since that's what I had on hand. Fine threaded ones would probably be better for this application. Good luck with your DIY endeavors!
