I use a dial indicator to calibrate the heated bed of my FABtotum quickly, usually under 1 minute. The design is old, dating back to FreeCAD v0.16, but still effective. You can access the full source code for FreeCAD. I've found that the most common dial indicators on eBay come from China, and it's possible they were also available at US Harbor Freight stores.
