Dial Gauge Jig for XY
thingiverse
Create a dial gauge jig for measuring X and Y motion on a Solidoodle 2's 150mm platform using a 3/8" post gauge (available at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006YD7G36/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00). To assemble, insert the gauge holder tab into the slide with the hole facing down its length, then push it against the cross brace and secure with glue or acetone. Next, set the nozzle to move a few mm towards the plunger. When the plunger barely moves, zero the gauge and measure how far the nozzle moves 20mm away from the plunger. Repeat the process moving the nozzle 20mm back towards the plunger to measure backlash. Calculate the correct steps/mm for that axis by multiplying 20 times the steps/mm in your firmware and dividing by the measurement. This simple jig can be customized for other platform sizes and dial gauges.
