Diagonally-Sliced 3-Level Menger Sponge
thingiverse
A fascinating mathematical entity, tilted diagonally to reveal its inner composition and allowing printout without the need for rafts, supports, or horizontal stretches. The 1- and 2-level sponges are also included. Printing it smaller highlights the finesse of the 2-level sponge. To create this unique design using NetFabb Basic, follow these steps: first, generate a Menger Sponge (it's a primitive). Then, rotate the Z axis by 45 degrees and the Y axis by approximately 54.74 degrees. Next, slice off a corner by cutting along the Z plane, adjusting as necessary in the slicing dialog. Remove the base segment to create a flat foundation. Export the STL file and resize it in your preferred slicer. For smaller prints, consider using a 1- or 2-level sponge.
