I work with kids who live with Type One Diabetes every day. These young people wear their Omnipod and CGM devices on their arms, proudly displaying them for all to see. Unfortunately, some adults still ask what these medical devices are, treating children like they're a curiosity to be pointed at. It's unacceptable behavior from people who should know better. I took matters into my own hands by printing out a set of Giant Lego Super Hero Minifigures with arms and attached Omnipods and CGMs. The reaction was instant: kids love them! Now, when adults ask about the devices, they can proudly show off their figure and explain what each one does, taking ownership of their condition in the process. This also sends a powerful message: even superheroes can have diabetes. As part of our mission to empower these young people, we use PRP4P as our motto, a statement that reminds us all that kids with Type One Diabetes are capable, confident, and full of potential.
