Dewalt Battery Holder or Adapter: A Versatile Solution for DIY Enthusiasts and Makers The Dewalt battery holder or adapter is a versatile tool that can be used as a mountable holder or, with the addition of a simple strip of brass, connected directly to the battery. A small compartment is designed for a fuse or reverse voltage protection device, allowing users to customize their setup according to their needs. Before proceeding, it's essential to understand the hazards associated with modifying a battery connection. Failure to do so could result in catastrophic consequences. Li-ion batteries are highly sensitive to deep discharge, which can cause permanent damage if they fall below 3 volts per cell. Murphy's Law dictates that users will often forget to disconnect power sources when not in use. To mitigate this risk, it's crucial to ensure that devices disconnect automatically when battery voltage drops below the safe threshold. Connecting this adapter to a charger intentionally or accidentally can lead to severe consequences, including battery explosion and fire. This bypasses the built-in charge and discharge protections provided by Dewalt tools and the connection points on the adapter are not designed for charging purposes. As a user who prioritizes safety, I've opted to use this adapter in conjunction with my Dewalt device's low-battery shutdown feature and an appropriate charger. This setup provides an affordable solution for handling batteries while maintaining robust protection during projects. Although initially tested on 20V batteries, the design is adaptable for 12V applications as well.
