This design was inspired by my earlier Shark Wrench (Poseidon's Pet).\nThe toy prints well in PLA and ABS, making it a great option for enthusiasts.\nI successfully printed it at 75% scale (~18cm) and 100% scale (~27cm), but printing it less than 75% may require patience due to the gears' precise requirements.\nIf you achieve successful prints that are less than 75% scale, please share your results so we can all learn from each other's experiences.\nWhen printing the Gear Screw and Abdomen Gear, I recommend using low speeds for optimal results.\nThe assembly process requires a screw and preferably a washer to secure the pieces together.\nTo ensure smooth assembly, drill a hole through the abdomen gear and crank that allows your screw to spin freely (look for guide holes).\nAlso, drill a smaller diameter pilot hole in the middle of the body (flat portion) to prevent plastic splitting while still holding the screw snugly.\nWhen attaching the Gear Shroud to the Body, make sure the Abdomen Gear is seated properly and the Crank is locked securely behind the Gear Shroud.\nThe Gear Shroud has a threaded connection to the Skull, just like a jar lid. To assemble, tighten it as loose as possible while ensuring it turns the Gear Screw smoothly. Over tightening may break the Gear Screw, so be cautious.\nA little white grease on the Gear Screw will help make jaw movement smoother and more efficient.\nThe Jaw is printed in two pieces (Jaw and Jaw Screw) that fit together via a Dovetail connection, requiring no glue for secure assembly.\nThis toy underwent numerous design changes over several months and many spools of filament, but I believe it was worth the effort.\nIt looks impressive and receives plenty of compliments from those who see it.\nTo witness the DevilFish in action and learn how to assemble it, watch this video: https://youtu.be/7hATmZmMOy0\nI'd like to extend special thanks to Dan Kirshner for providing the Thread Library and Jeremy Green for contributing the Dovetail library.\nThe OpenSCAD file is also included for anyone interested in exploring further.
