Device to produce PLA springs

thingiverse

A unique 3D printing project involves creating springs from raw 3mm PLA filament using a customizable mold, designed by mekmekmek and also available in Makerbot customizer by Hutch914. The mold measures 3/4" by 3" tall and is particularly robust due to the absence of shear planes in the twisted filament. This concept can be used for creating torsion springs, conical compression springs or even extension springs if the filament is wrapped around a dowel with touching sides. Instructions are available in the JPG gallery here: http://thingiverse-production.s3.amazonaws.com/assets/7d/20/21/46/67/spring_instructions.jpg, and Autodesk Inventor file is also included for modification.
