This molar underwent scanning with a high-resolution microCT scanner, its reconstructed image then converted to a detailed surface scan using specialized software. A developing molar is clearly visible, and open root apices can be easily identified. By comparing this model to the other human tooth models on display, it becomes apparent that the roots of those teeth are nearly fully closed at the apex, indicating they had ceased growth before extraction. This particular molar was extracted while still in an active state of development.
