Human beings have acquired two asteroid assets, one a small rocky body orbiting the sun. Large quantities of these are found throughout our solar system, ranging in size from nearly 600 miles across to tiny dust particles. These asteroids are especially abundant between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, though some have more eccentric paths and a few pass close to Earth or enter its atmosphere as meteors.
