Detailed 3D Interlocking Carcassonne Tiles
thingiverse
Carcassonne is a tile-based board game designed by Hans im Glück for 2-5 players. The name pays homage to the fortified town in France that sparked the original idea. As an experiment, I created Carcassonne to demonstrate how physical object properties can shape gameplay mechanics. Each edge type must match its counterpart to connect properly, resulting in three distinct interlocking systems used throughout the game. I had a blast crafting high-detail tiles, and they feature generous tolerances for smooth assembly even across crowded tables. The pieces are designed to be easily slotted together despite being separated by other components on the board. However, this can sometimes cause meeples to get disrupted during gameplay. To minimize damage, gently slide them around the table. If you're interested in playing Carcassonne, I suggest purchasing the original game for its comprehensive rulebook and additional pieces. This replacement set is specifically designed for the cardboard tiles, so be prepared to upgrade your piece-picking bag. Standard meeples may not sit comfortably on some of these tiles due to their design priorities, but that's a compromise worth making for the aesthetic value they bring.
