Kohunlich showcases a massive archaeological site of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization, situated on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. This site stands out for its Temple of the Masks, an Early Classic pyramid whose central stairway is bordered by enormous humanized stucco masks. Built around 500 A.D., the Temple ranks as one of Kohunlich's oldest structures. Later, the temple was encased in earth, shielding the masks and contributing to their remarkable preservation today. The Spanish name originates from English Cohune Ridge, where cohune palm thrived.
