Built between 1943 and 1944 for World War II efforts, the Buckley Class Destroyer Escorts were designed to play a vital role in the war. These ships stood out from their fleet destroyer counterparts by being smaller, slower, and with shorter ranges but offered distinct advantages: they were less expensive, quicker to man, more agile, and faster deployment capabilities made them ideal for various scenarios. The US Navy commissioned over 150 of these vessels, which served alongside their British counterparts as Captain Class Frigates. Equipped with a variety of armaments, including three 3-inch artillery pieces, a quad 40mm anti-aircraft gun, and torpedo tubes capable of launching standard M14 torpedoes, Buckley class ships also mounted multiple cannons – up to eight 20 mm pieces.
