The model comes in several formats. Constructed between 1943 and 1944, the Buckley Class Destroyer Escorts played a pivotal role during World War II. Although smaller and less range-savvy compared to fleet destroyer classes, these ships were easier to staff, more budget-friendly, quicker to deploy, and highly maneuverable. Over 150 of these vessels were built and saw service in the US Navy or British Navy as Captain Class Frigates. Armed with three 3-inch artillery pieces, a quad 40mm anti-aircraft gun, three torpedo launch tubes for standard M14 torpedoes, and up to eight 20mm cannons, these ships were equipped with an array of weaponry. They also featured M24 mousetrap launchers, after racks for roll-off depth charges, and k-gun launchers for deploying depth charges. In addition, the Buckley class Destroyer escorts possessed cutting-edge sonar and underwater search equipment for anti-submarine warfare. Notably, a Buckley Class ship was used as the main setting for filming in the movie “The Enemy Below”, where most of the action took place.
