Built between 1943 and 1944, the Buckley Class Destroyer Escorts were specifically designed for wartime duty during World War II. Despite being smaller and slower than their fleet destroyer counterparts, they had several advantages: lower cost, quicker turnaround times for personnel, and greater maneuverability made them a valuable asset in the war effort. Over 150 of these vessels saw action in both the US Navy and the British Navy under the guise of Captain Class Frigates. Their impressive arsenal included three 3 inch artillery pieces, one quad 40 mm anti-aircraft gun, and an assortment of other weapons such as M14 torpedoes, 20 mm cannons and a single quad .50 caliber machine gun on each bow of two boats from the second and sixth hulls to launch 21" MK33 torpedo at their target or the surrounding environment to defend it from enemy planes or vessels using roll off depth charges with up to 32 bar or an unspecified type and six anti submarine weapons for defense of friendly ships or a port in wartime, also carried a small boat launch. This impressive model of the Buckley Class Destroyer Escort was actually featured in the classic movie "The Enemy Below."
