Built and launched between 1943 and 1944 to aid the war effort during World War II were the Buckley Class Destroyer Escorts. Although they were smaller, slower, and less range-extended than fleet destroyer classes, they had lower construction costs, faster manning rates and greater maneuverability making them suitable options for their role. More than 150 of these vessels were produced and used by either the US Navy or British Navy under the Captain Class Frigates moniker.
