All materials and textures are precisely rendered as shown here. The model comes in several formats. Between 1943 and 1944, a total of more than 150 Buckley Class Destroyer Escorts were built and launched into service for the US Navy and British Navy during World War II as Captain Class Frigates. Despite being smaller, slower and less maneuverable than fleet destroyer classes, these ships boasted key advantages - they were easier to man, cheaper, quicker to prepare, and more agile in combat. The armament on board included three 3 inch artillery pieces, a single quad 40 mm anti-aircraft gun, three standard M14 torpedo launch tubes, and up to eight 20 mm cannons. They also carried the infamous M24 mousetrap launchers, two after racks for roll off depth charges and six to eight k-gun launchers for launching additional depth charges, in addition to their advanced sonar and underwater search equipment designed specifically for anti-submarine warfare operations. A notable example of a Buckley class Destroyer escort's presence is the movie "The Enemy Below", which extensively used footage captured on board one of these vessels during its production.
