These vessels were designed with unique characteristics that made them stand out: they were smaller, slower, and didn't have the same range as their fleet destroyer counterparts, but they were more accessible, less costly, easier to crew, and highly maneuverable. Over 150 of these ships saw action in the US Navy or British Navy as Captain Class Frigates. Their armament included three 3-inch artillery pieces, a single quad 40mm anti-aircraft gun, three torpedo launch tubes for standard M14 torpedoes, and up to eight 20mm cannons. They also carried M24 mousetrap launchers, two after racks for roll-off depth charges and six to eight k-gun launchers for depth charges. Advanced sonar and underwater search gear were installed for anti-submarine warfare. The Buckley class Destroyer escort made a notable appearance in the movie "The Enemy Below", with most of the filming taking place on board an actual Buckley Class ship.
