A helicopter is a versatile rotorcraft that derives its lift and thrust from rotors. These aircraft have been designed and constructed throughout the initial half-century of flight, with the Focke-Wulf Fw 61 becoming the first operational helicopter in 1936. While several helicopters achieved limited production runs, it wasn't until 1942 that a design created by Igor Sikorsky reached full-scale mass production - a feat accomplished through building 131 aircraft. The prevalent helicopter configuration employs a single main rotor and anti-torque tail rotor. Tandem rotor helicopters are equally common due to their greater payload capacity.
