Desktop Widget II

Some information we need always on display such as today's date or the current time. Depending on what you're doing, it might be necessary to have other information like the weather or the time in different cities around the world. This information can be shown on your computer screen, but since that isn't really the best option for various reasons, I made a Desktop Widget (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:857858) some time ago. As the display capacity is very limited, I made a bigger one now. While the first was in a clear rounded design, I tried with the new one to keep it simple and clean but added sharp edges and hard lines to give a strong, clear appearance. Of course, this widget can be used as just another weather display, but I need to have the exchange rate and the time in different cities around the world right at my fingertips. A code example and detailed building instructions are available here: https://hackaday.io/project/11081-forex-display. But of course, this is just one possible application among many. This works best if ABS is used. After sanding, fine painting with an airbrush gun will provide a proper finish. When you print without a raft, the window for the display becomes a bit too small. This is necessary because a too wide window will lead to an ugly appearance as the frame of the TFT becomes visible. As a help to sand the window to the right size, the test mode of the program can be used. This test mode draws a frame which makes it easy to recognize whether the whole screen is visible. If the white plastic for the housing is chosen, it might be necessary to paint the inside of the housing black. This is because the cheap TFT scatters some light around the frame which might become visible. How I Designed This The housing was designed with Tinkercad
